WWE SmackDown Results (6/17): Mr. McMahon Appears, Reigns/Riddle Title Match – Wrestling Inc.

Welcome to our WrestlingINC.com live WWE “SmackDown” viewing party. Tonight’s show is broadcasting live from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

As of Friday afternoon, two matches were announced for tonight’s show.

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Riddle vs. Roman Reigns (c)
  • Last Laugh Match: Happy Corbin vs. Madcap Moss

WWE is also promoting that Mr. McMahon will appear on tonight’s episode.

We’re on the air!

We open in the arena as “No Chance In Hell” plays and Mr. McMahon makes his entrance. There are cheers, but some boos can also be heard.

McMahon gets a microphone and is introduced by the ring announcer to a good ovation.

He says it’s a privilege to stand before the WWE fans tonight. He says he’s here to remind everyone of the four words in the WWE signature that is shown before every WWE program: “Then. Now. Forever. Together.” He says, “Welcome to SmackDown”, tosses the mic aside, and exits the ring.

We fade to black and get the full SmackDown intro.

Back into the arena. Michael Cole and Pat McAfee are on commentary.

Riddle makes his entrance. He takes a microphone and says he wants to take a stroll down memory lane and tosses to a video recap of his recent history with Roman Reigns, starting with RK-Bro losing the tag team championship unification match to The Usos.

Back to Riddle, he says he’s been waiting a long time for this opportunity. He says all his friends and family are watching at home and so is his “best bro” Randy Orton. Riddle says Randy has a big operation coming up and everyone wishes him the best of luck. Riddle says Randy may be wondering if he’ll be able to come back. Riddle says, “We miss you, bro”. Riddle says he doesn’t care what kind of shape Orton is in, “I love you, Randy”.

Riddle says Orton has been killing legends for 20 years. He specifically mentions Orton setting the Undertaker on fire that one time. Riddle says Orton sacrificed everything to entertain us. Riddle says he speaks for everyone when he says, “Thank you, Randy”.

Riddle says tonight he challenges Roman Reigns of the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and he knows everyone he’s dedicating this match to Orton. Riddle requests they play Orton’s entrance song, which they do.

We head to Cole and McAfee at the announce table who toss to a video recap of the rivalry between Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss.

Back in the arena, Madcap Moss makes his entrance. Moss is announced as hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, which is where “SmackDown” is emanating from tonight. He faces Corbin next. But first, we go to a commercial break.

Back from the break, we get a reminder of Riddle’s title match against Roman Reigns coming up later tonight.

In the ring, Madcap Moss awaits as Happy Corbin makes his entrance.

Last Laugh Match: Happy Corbin vs. Madcap Moss

Corbin charges but Moss leapfrogs and takes down Corbin with a forearm strike. Corbin retakes control with some punches. He backs Moss into the corner but charges into a knee from Moss. Moss hits a flying shoulder tackle from the second turnbuckle. Moss kicks away at Corbin in the corner and whips him hard into the opposite corner.

Corbin fires back with a punch and chokes Moss on the top rope. Corbin takes down Moss with a head and arm choke. Corbin knees Moss in the gut and misses a dive into the corner. Moss picks up the pace and hits a big shoulder tackle. Corbin misses a clothesline and Moss catches him for a fallaway slam.

Corbin recovers and sends Moss through the turnbuckle into the ring post. Moss spills to the floor. Corbin follows and sends Moss into the timekeeper’s area.

We go to a commercial break.

Back from the break, Corbin and Moss are both on the ring apron trading punches. Corbin clotheslines Moss over the top rope and lifts Moss to the top turnbuckle. Moss fights off Corbin and hits a sunset flip from the top rope for a 2-count.

Moss charges but runs into a Deep Six for a 2-count.

Corbin sets up Moss for a powerbomb but Moss flips out of it. However, Moss walks into a chokeslam by Corbin. Moss rolls out of the ring. Corbin follows. Moss tries to get back into the ring but Corbin grabs him and slams him into the ring post. Corbin tries to get back into the ring. Moss grabs him and slams him into the announce table. Corbin is nearly counted out but is able to get back in at 9. He walks into a Punch Line neckbreaker by Moss for a 2-count.

Moss hits another Punch Line neckbreaker and that gets the pin.

Madcap Moss defeated Happy Corbin via pinfall

Moss gets a microphone and simply laughs at Corbin. I guess that pays off the stipulation.

Backstage, the Street Profits are in the locker room. They recap the match we just saw and mention Riddle challenging Reigns later tonight. They mention that they will challenge The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles at Money in the Bank.

Back to the announce table, Cole and McAfee are interrupted by Happy Corbin. He has a microphone and says he and McAfee have known each other for a long time. He says he keeps hearing McAfee criticizing him, even when he was broke and down on his luck. He says McAfee talks about all his losses and says he’s undeserving of his pyro. Corbin threatens to drag McAfee into the ring and wish he were dead. Corbin drops the mic and walks away.

McAfee takes off his headset and gets up and takes the mic. He starts a “Bum Ass Corbin” chant. He says before Corbin walks out of the arena he wants the fans to laugh Corbin out of the arena. McAfee gets the fans worked up and they oblige somewhat.

As Corbin is leaving ringside, The New Day’s music plays. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods make their entrance. They point at Corbin and laugh at him as they walk past him on the stage. They will face Jinder Mahal and Shanky next. But first, we got to a commercial break.

Back from the break, we get a classic “SmackDown” moment, which is Edge teaming with Hulk Hogan to win the tag team titles on July 4, 2002.

We’re reminded of the Reigns/Riddle title match coming up later tonight.

Cole and McAfee chat over a video from last Friday of Natalya attacking Ronda Rousey.

Backstage, Megan Morant interviews Natalya. Natalya says she’s going to beat some respect into Rousey at Money in the Bank. She says she proved the Sharpshooter is the most dangerous submission move in WWE history. Natalya wants to ask Rousey how it felt but Rousey isn’t here tonight because she’s at home “licking her wounds”. Natalya says her Sharpshooter breaks bones and rips tendons. She says she’ll be the first woman in WWE history to make Rousey tap out.

Back in the arena, Kingston and Woods wait in the ring. Jinder Mahal and Shanky make their entrance. Shanky is again dancing behind Mahal’s back.

We go to a commercial break.

Back from the break, it’s time for this tag team match.

Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods vs. Jinder Mahal & Shanky

Mahal starts off against Woods. Woods grabs a headlock but runs into a bodyslam by Mahal. Mahal kicks and elbows Woods in the corner. Woods reverses a whip into the corner and hits a springboard drop kick for a 2-count.

Kingston tags in and he and Woods hit a double bulldog for a 2-count.

Mahal fights off Kingston and tags in Shanky. Kingston hits a dropkick. Shanky doesn’t go down and hits a big chop on Kingston. Shanky backs Kingston into the corner and hits some back elbows. Shanky throws Kingston across the ring. Shanky stops to pose but Woods starts to play his trombone. Shanky can not resist the tune and starts to dance. Mahal tags in and scolds Shanky.

Mahal turns around and walks right into Trouble in Paradise by Kingston for the pin.

Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods defeated Jinder Mahal & Shanky via pinfall

Shanky is still dancing after the match. Mahal is not pleased.

We get a hype video for the Viking Raiders. They are returning to “SmackDown” next week.

Back in the arena, Drew McIntyre makes his entrance. Cole tells us Adam Pearce has promised to make a decision on whether McIntyre or Sheamus will qualify for the men’s Money in the Bank match after their inconclusive qualifying match last week. But first, we go to a commercial break.

Back from the break, another reminder that Riddle vs. Reigns is coming up later tonight.

Back to the ring, McIntyre is waiting with Adam Pearce. We cut to the back, where we see Sheamus, Butch, Ridge Holland waiting to enter. Sheamus says his buddies have to stay in the back. Holland promises to keep a tight hold on Butch, who apparently could run wild at any moment. Sheamus makes his entrance alone.

Pearce tells them they both failed to qualify for the men’s Money in the Bank match. Pearce rambles on about how Money in the Bank works, but McIntyre cuts him off and says if he’s not in the match he’s going to beat someone’s ass.

Sheamus says putting McIntyre in the match would be one of the biggest mistakes in the history of WWE. Sheamus recalls that he successfully cashed in Money in the Bank once, while McIntyre was victimized by Money in the Bank.

Pearce tosses to video from last week’s match, which ended in a double disqualification.

Back to the ring, Pearce says he’s reviewed the footage and consulted with WWE management. The decision is that Sheamus is in the Money in the Bank match. Sheamus grabs the microphone and gloats about McIntyre sitting at home while he competes at Money in the Bank. McIntyre goes after Sheamus and clotheslines him out of the ring.

Pearce says his next sentence was going to be to say that McIntyre is also in the Money in the Bank match. Sheamus runs into the ring and runs right into a Claymore. McIntyre poses and leaves Sheamus laid out in the ring. Anyway, both McIntyre and Sheamus are both in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

Backstage, Sami Zayn walked up to the door to Roman Reigns’ dressing room but is clearly nervous. Kayla Braxton walks up to him and asks if he’s spoken with anyone in The Bloodline. Zayn says he hasn’t. Braxton wonders if there’s any ill will over Zayn losing last week. Zayn says no worries because he’s an “honorary Uce”. Zayn decided to go to the bathroom and walks away.

Back in the arena, Raquel Rodriguez makes her entrance. We get a pre-recorded promo where Rodriguez says she was close to beating Ronda Rousey and wants to get into the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Rodriguez will face Shayna Baszler in a qualifying match next. But first, we go to a commercial break.

Back from the break, Lacey Evans has joined the commentary team.

Shayna Baszler makes her entrance. We get a promo where Baszler talks about tearing apart Rodriguez and ruining her dreams.

Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Raquel Rodriguez vs. Shayna Bazler

Rodriguez grabs a double-leg and drives Baszler into the corner. Baszler grabs Rodriguez’s leg and tries for a submission but Rodrigeuz escapes and whips Baszler into the corner.

Rodriguez misses a big boot in the corner and Baszler ties her up around the turnbuckles. Baszler ties up Rodriguez’s leg in the ropes again and kicks away at it.

We’re shown Shotzi and Aliyah watching backstage and told they’ll meet in another qualifying match next week.

Rodriguez tries for a powerslam but Baszler slips out and chops Rodriguez’s knee. Baszler hits a running knee strike for a 2-count.

Baszler tries for a sleeper hold but Rodriguez backs her into the corner to break the hold. Rodriguez quickly powers up Baszler with the one-armed powerbomb and gets the pin.

Raquel Rodriguez defeated Shayna Baszler via pinfall

Rodriguez is in the Money in the Bank ladder match. Evans is shown applauding her at ringside.

We get a look at Riddle warming up backstage. Shinsuke Nakamura ducks in to offer a quick word.

We go to a commercial break.

Back from the break, we see a spotlight over the ring. We cut to backstage where Max Dupri is in Adam Pearce’s face. He’s disappointed with the lighting set-up for his client. Dupri says this will not do and Pearce will not see his clients until he tightens this up.

Back to the announce table, Cole and McAfee chat over a video of Gunther winning the Intercontinental Championship from Ricochet last week.

We go backstage, where Kayla Braxton interviews Gunther. Ludwig Kaiser takes her microphone. He says Gunther’s victory was inevitable. Kaiser reminds us the title was first awarded in South America and its first holder was French-Canadian. Now, he says it was besmirched by Ricochet. Kaiser says the title will never be held by an American ever again and its prestige will be restored. Gunther adds that he is the new Intercontinental Champion.

Back in the arena, Riddle makes his entrance and Roman Reigns makes his entrance. The title match is coming up next. But first, we go to a commercial break.

Back from the break, we’re told Sami Zayn will face Shinsuke Nakamura and Shotzi will face Aliyah in Money in the Bank qualifying matches next Friday. Plus, Ricochet gets his title rematch against the WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther.

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Riddle vs. Roman Reigns (c) (with The Usos & Paul Heyman)

Riddle charges right at the bell and pounds Reigns down in the corner with punches and kicks. Reigns responds with a big uppercut to take down Riddle. Reigns backs Riddle into the corner and slams him into the top turnbuckle. Reigns whips Riddle into the corner but Riddle hops over Reigns and hits a fisherman suplex. Reigns rolls to the floor but Riddle follows with a kick from the apron and a springboard Floating Bro from the second rope onto Reigns on the floor.

We got to a commercial break.

Back from the break, Riddle is punching Reigns in the middle of the ring but Reigns responds with an uppercut that knocks down Riddle. Reigns mounts Riddle and rains down punches. Reigns pauses to pose for the crowd and then chokes Riddle on the bottom rope. Reigns rolls out to the floor and hits the drive-by dropkick. He covers Riddle for a 2-count.

Reigns tries to ground Riddle with a cravat. Riddle fights to his feet but can’t break the hold. Riddle finally punches Reigns in the gut to break it and both men trade blows in the middle of the ring. Riddle catches Reigns with his overhead kick and kips up. Riddle hits a series of running forearms in the corner and an exploder suplex. Riddle goes for a senton but Reigns gets his knees up. Reigns charges into an elbow. Ridlde goes to the top rope and hits a Floating Bro for a 2-count.

Riddle tries for the Final Flash knee but Reigns reverses into a uranage for a 2-count. McAfee noticed it was similar to a Rock Bottom.

Riddle goes to the floor. Reigns follows. Reigns hits a Randy Orton style backdrop suplex to Riddle onto the announce table. Reigns talks into one of the cameras and taunts Orton and we go to a commercial break.

Back from the break, we first get a hype video for John Cena’s return to “Raw” coming up on June 27.

Back to the ring, Riddle is down and Reigns is posing for the crowd. Reigns loads up for the Superman Punch, but Riddle catches him with a jumping knee. Reigns charges into a powerslam by Riddle. Riddle goes for Orton’s draping DDT but Reigns fights out of it to the floor. Riddle goes out and backdrop suplexes him onto the announce table. Riddle tries to get Reigns into the ring but Reigns slams him into the ring post.

Reigns rolls Riddle into the ring. Reigns stalls and Riddle catches him coming back in with a draping DDT. Riddle sets up for the RKO, but Reigns powers out of it and hits the Superman Punch for a 2-count.

Reigns is first to his feet and jaws at the crowd. He sets up for the spear. Riddle catches him coming in with the RKO. Reigns kicks out at 2 for a very close near fall.

Riddle climbs to the top rope and hits the Floating Bro on Reigns. Riddle sets up for another RKO but Reigns pushes him off. Riddle comes off the ropes and tries a springboard but Reigns catches him with a spear and that gets the pin.

Roman Reigns defeated Riddle via pinfall

The Usos and Heyman celebrate with Reigns in the ring. Cole and McAfee are talking about Riddle putting in a great performance. This loss means that Riddle can not challenge again for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship as long as Reigns is champion.

Reigns takes a microphone and says there’s no one left. Reigns says he promised two years ago he would wreck everyone and then he was leaving and that’s exactly what he says he’s doing. Reigns tells Minneapolis to acknowledge him.

Reigns gets ready to leave but Brock Lesnar’s music plays and Brock Lesnar walks out onto the stage. Reigns clears The Usos and Heyman out of the ring. Lesnar gets into the ring to face off with Reigns. They stare each other down for a few moments and Lesnar extends his hand. Reigns goes to shake it and Lesnar scoops up Reigns and drops him with an F5. The Usos hit the ring and they both get dropped with F5’s.
